Abstract

800,516. Moulding hollow asbestos-cement articles. MARCHIOLI, G., and GREMIGNI, G. Nov. 16, 1955 [Dec. 29, 1954], No. 32765/55. Class 87(2). Hollow articles of asbestos cement having an external surface other than a surface of revolution are formed in a sectional mould with its cavity lined with wire gauze 4 permanently secured to the shaped surface of the mould sections, each section of the mould having conduits 3 for draining water squeezed out of asbestos-cement mix through the pressure of an inflated core 7. The mould is in two parts 1, 2 to which the gauze 4 is fixed by soldering at suitable points. The core, e.g., of rubber, may be inflated through a pipe 8. The upper part 1 of the mould is enclosed in a jacket 5 into which air may be admitted through a pipe 6. The ends of the mould are closed by covers 11 slidable in grooves. The asbestos cement is cut into pieces suitable to line the gauze, their edges being shaped to give smooth joints, and arranged in the two mould halves. The core 7 is located and the mould assembled. The mould is put in a press and compressed air is forced into the core ; thus water is squeezed out of the cement and escapes through the channels 3. In dismantling, suction is applied through the pipe 6 and the upper mould part 1 lifted with the moulded article, after which the suction is removed to allow the article to be detached.
