Abstract

A composition comprising a vinyl resin, phosphoric acid, chromic acid, and an aliphatic or aromatic hydroxy acid or ester thereof, or a mixture of two or more such acids or esters, in an organic solvent, is used as an etch primer for application to an aluminium foil before lacquering or printing. The composition given by way of example contains polyvinyl butyral and citric acid in methylethyl ketone-ethyl alcoholbutyl alcohol. Many examples of other hydroxy acids are disclosed.ALSO:An etch primer for application to aluminium foil before lacquering or printing contains, in an organic solvent, a vinyl resin, phosphoric acid, chromic acid, and an aliphatic or aromatic hydroxy acid or ester thereof or a mixture of two or more such acids or esters. The primer given by way of example contains polyvinyl butyral and citric acid in methylethyl ketoneethyl alcohol-butyl alcohol. Many examples of other hydroxy acids are disclosed.
