Abstract

800,019. Screwing die-heads. FOLL, C., FOLL, H., and FOLL, A., [trading as REMSWERK C. FOLL & SOHNE]. Oct. 6, 1954 [Oct. 6, 1953], No. 15412/58. Divided out of 800,017. Class 83 (3). A rotary die-head for cutting conical screw threads comprises a body 73, Fig. 1, in which four dies 75 are interconnected so that movement of one causes similar movement of the others, the said one being engaged by a nut 36, Fig. 2, on a screwed spindle 35 which is rotated to set the cutting diameter of the head. The spindle is carried by a fork 37 engaged by an eccentric 39 on a shaft 40 carrying a gear 43 driven via gears 55, 53, 52 by a toothed wheel 59 rotatable relatively to the head. Adjacent wheel 59 is a toothed wheel 58 integral with or fixed to the head, the two wheels having differing numbers of teeth and being engageable by pawls 63, 64 mounted in a handle 61 which is manually oscillated. The first part of each stroke in the cutting direction causes slight movement of wheel 59 relatively to wheel 58 to align the teeth engaged by the pawls and to open the dies slightly. The pawls are controllable by a cam 67 to allow engagement of pawl 63 only for parallel threads, and further pawls 63<SP>11</SP>, 64<SP>11</SP> for left-hand threads are also controlled by the cam.
