Abstract

799,733. Brushes. XENIS, C. P. April 16, 1957 [April 30, 1956], No. 12364/57. Addition to 775,106. Class 19. [Also in Group XXVIII] In the apparatus described in the parent Specification wherein a number of bristle-like fingers 99 extend from aligned core members 95, 96 attached to a housing 87 enclosing power means for oscillating the housing to impart to at least a part of each core member an oscillatory motion transverse to the axes thereof to cause the apparatus to travel through a conduit 88, each of the fingers has, at or near the base thereof, a coil 100 through which the outer extremity of the finger is attached to the core member. As shown, the housing encloses an electric motor the driving shaft 92 of which carries eccentric bob weights 93, 94 located 180 degrees out of phase with one another so that when the shaft rotates the housing wobbles in such a manner that opposite ends thereof tend to describe circles about the axis of the conduit. The fingers 99, Fig. 6. are each formed integrally with the helical coil 100 the axis 100a of which is parallel with the portion 99a of the finger when the latter is not subjected to constraint by the walls of the conduit, and an anchor portion 99b provided with a bent-over tip 99d and clamped between coaxial, disc-like aluminium spacers 101, each pair of spacers securing twelve fingers ; a stack of spacers, forming the core members, are secured between flanges 102, 103. The faces of the spacers are inclined at an angle of 15 degrees to a plane normal to the axis 101a of the core so that the fingers are inclined to that plane correspondingly.
