Abstract

962,468. Vibration testing of materials. W. & T. AVERY Ltd. Aug. 21,1961 [Sept. 3, 1960], No. 30027/61. Heading G1S. A vibratory system for testing a workpiece 1 comprises a spring 3 and a weight M made up of a motor 5 for rotating inertia members 6a, 6b which generate vibrations along the coupling rod 2. An additional mass 4 may be provided, and the mass of the spring-weight system M-3 may be supported by a spring 7 aligned through the centre of gravity. There is no constraint, apart from rod 2, on any of the degrees of freedom of movement of the system, and this is so designed that the natural frequency of oscillation is greatest in the direction of the rod 2. By arranging the two semicircular rotors 6a, 6b to be offset with respect to each other by 180 degrees, torsional oscillation about the axis of the coupling may be produced.
