[Also in Group XIV] In a method of making a cushion of polyurethane foam having on its undersurface grooves 3 the grooves are cut in the block 15<SP>1</SP> or sheet of the material by an electrically heated wire 14<SP>1</SP> bent to the shape corresponding to the desired crosssectional shape of the grooves, the block 151 resting on a table 16<SP>1</SP> between side bars 171, 181 and the table being moved horizontally in the direction of arrows 19<SP>1</SP> to contact the block with the wire 14<SP>1</SP> which fuses the foam plastic to form the grooves. The table 16<SP>1</SP> is also movable up and down to initiate or terminate the grooves intermediate the ends of the block or to vary their depth. Alternatively the table may be stationary and the wire movable.
