A resilient article e.g. a hospital ring cushion, is formed by pressing down on a slab of foamed plastics e.g. polyurethane, with welding electrodes 4, 5 carried by the movable one of two opposed platens 1, 2. The electrodes are heated by high frequency current during operation or pre-heated by electrical resistance heaters.
