Abstract

799,357. Wall and ceiling coverings. HAY, H. M. March 21, 1957 [Dec. 21, 1955; Feb. 22, 1956], Nos. 36583/55 and 5477/56. Class 20(4) A building board a for suspending from a ceiling or roof or for attachment to vertical partitions is attached to a channel section lath b by clips which are attached to stiffening battens d and engage over the flanges of the lath. In Fig. 1, the clips e are of bendable sheet metal secured by screws or nails f, they may be bent back to allow stacking and engage over the straight flanges of the channel member. In Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the channel has flanges with inwardly turned edges, and the batten is formed of inverted metal Tees, the clips being secured either between the underside of upwardly joggled ends and the upper faces of the boards or to the upper face of the flange. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the clips are made of bendable wire and have their ends inserted into the end faces of the battens which are drilled to receive them. In Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the clips are formed with turned-back nose portions which are pressed aside by the base of the channel when the boards are pressed against it, the channel having outwardly directed edges in Fig. 7. In Fig. 8 (not shown), the clips consist of bifurcated single wires forming two horizontal prongs which are inserted in drilled holes in the battens. Fig. 9 shows this arrangement, the prongs being united by a loop k<SP>3</SP> formed as a 'hooked and inclined nose which engages over the inwardly directed edge of the channel flange. In Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown), the -clips are pivoted by eyes which are formed at each end and are attached to a bolt passing transversely through the battens. Fig. 12 illustrates a wire hook n formed of a single length of wire pivoting about a transverse axis located in a notch o cut in the underside of the batten d. In Fig. 13 (not shown), the hooks are united by a connecting portion of wire journalled in the notch and in Fig. 14 (not shown) the nose portions of the hooks are interconnected, the ends being inserted into the notch.
