Abstract

798,951. Sanding. MINAMI, M. Sept. 28, 1955, No. 27563/55. Class 60. A machine for sanding sheet material, e.g., a plywood panel 17, comprises an endless sanding belt 1 running transversely to the direction of travel of the work through the machine, the belt 1 being pressed down on to the work by spaced pliable shoes 15, of rubber or bristles, carried by an endless belt 7 of steel, rubber or cloth ; the belt 7 is driven in the same direction as the sanding belt 1 but at a slower speed, and is backed by a guide 14 carried by the machine frame. The sanding belt 1 is supported by pulleys 2, 2, is driven through belt B from a motor M and is tensioned by a pulley 9 on an arm loaded by a weight 10 ; the belt 7 is supported by pulleys 6, 6, is driven through a further belt and is tensioned by a pulley 11 on an arm loaded by a spring 12. A second sanding belt 1<SP>1</SP> is driven by a motor M<SP>1</SP> in a direction opposite to that of the belt 1 and is pressed down on to the work by shoes 151 carried by an endless belt 7<SP>1</SP> backed by a guide 14<SP>1</SP>. Feed rollers 16 are provided.
