Abstract
798,231. Collapsible cores for concrete. EVANS, W. A. Aug. 5, 1955, No. 22548/55. Class 87(2). In a collapsible core in which the core is expanded by moving a bar 15 to the left to cause cam surfaces 16c on expander members 16 to engage rollers 7 on inner core members 2 and thus push them outwards, the outward movement of the members 2 is limited by surfaces 4a on blocks 3 which engage surfaces 10 on end members 9 detachably secured to the outer core members 1 by projections 12 on brackets 13 secured to the members 1. Movement of the bar 15 is limited in one direction by a stop 24 which engages the projection 12 on the upper member 1, and movement of the corresponding bar 20 in the other direction is limited by a stop 25 which engages the corresponding projection 12 on the lower member 1. Slots on the expander members 16 formed by projections 18 engage ribs 19 on the members 1. Stiffening members 26, 27 may be fixed to the members 1, 2, respectively. The rollers 7 may be replaced by cam surfaces and the cam surfaces 16c by rollers. To adjust the height of a core, the screws 14 in the top member 1 are removed to allow the member 1 to be removed, the end plates 9 are changed and the bolts 6 and 22 removed to allow spacer members to be inserted or removed from between the members 3, 5 and 16.
