Abstract

797,553. Thermal switches. PROCTOR ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 3, 1955, No. 28053/55. Class 38 (5). A cyclic regulator comprises a composite thermomotive member including a bimetal element and a heater secured together, the thermomotive member being pivotally mounted, and a rigid member engaging the thermomotive member near its mounting so that manual adjustment of the rigid member adjusts the thermomotive member about its mounting. The thermomotive member comprises a bimetal element 12 and heater 13 secured together at their upper ends and insulated from each other over the rest of their lengths. The heater has a bent-over extension 22 secured to an arm 23 of a terminal 24 so as to provide the pivotal mounting. The rigid member 25 has a tongue riveted between the heater 13 and element 12 near the mounting and extends alongside the thermomotive member. A screw 28 in the casing engages a threaded hole 27 in the member 25 to provide a zero adjustment. A contact 3 carried by the free end of the bimetal 12 cooperates with a contact 4 on a spring arm 5 which is mounted on a terminal 6 and is acted on by an adjusting cam 8 through a spring 7, which is bimetallic to provide ambient temperature compensation. A resistance 31 is connected in shunt across the heater 13 by being connected at its upper end to the member 25 and at its lower end to the terminal arm 23. The lower connection is factory adjustable to compensate for manufacturing variations. The cam 8 also controls a main switch and a switch controlling a pilot lamp (not shown). U.S.A.
