Abstract

797,462. Welding by pressure. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 13, 1956 [April 18, 1955], No. 11327/56. Class 83 (4). In a stud-welding gun having a part 2 movable relatively to the gun housing 1 and ocmprising a stud holder 4, 5, a spring 6 is compressed between an abutment 21 on the movable part and an abutment 20 on the housing, the abutment on the housing being displaceable relatively to the housing to adjust the tension of the spring which moves a stud to a workpiece and the housing having three definite positions for the abutment for welding from below, above and in a horizontal position. A tube 2, carrying a channel 4 and a spring 5 is slidable the spring 6 within the housing 1 and is located between a collar 21 on the tube and a collar 20 in the housing. A collar 7 on the tube engages a stop 8 on the housing to limit the extension of the spring 6. A pin 23 movable in a slot 24 in the housing and having three arresting positions 25, 26, 27 is provided between the collar 20 and a ring 22 external to the housing so that rotation of the ring 22 moves the pin in the slot and thus the collar 20 to adjust the compression of the spring.
