Flux distribution in a linear travelling field interaction pump, is rendered more uniform by providing a twelve-phase winding connected to a three-phase supply so that the phase-angle between adjacent windings is 30 degrees instead of 120 degrees. Alternate windings are connected between phases and phase-and-neutral of the supply, the windings being wound respectively for phase and line voltages.
