Abstract
A thermosetting aminoplast resin includes as acid curing catalyst, 0.5-5 per cent by weight of chlorendic acid. In place of the acid, may be used an acid salt, e.g. the mono sodium salt, the anhydride, or the product obtained by reacting the acid with ammonia or a primary amine. A minor proportion of a catalyst inhibitor, e.g. hexamethylene tetramine may also be included in the composition. In examples: (I) urea-formaldehyde resin, wood flour, titanium dioxide, zinc stearate, dicylohexylamine hexachloroendomethylene tetrahydrophthalate and hexamethylenetetramine are blended as fine powders. The blend is densified and ground to a moulding powder; (II) is similar, using an aqueous solution containing ammonium hexachloroendomethylenetetrahydrophthalate and hexamethylene tetramine; (III) is similar, using chlorendic anhydride and hexamethylene tetramine. Melamine-formaldehyde resins are also mentioned as suitable aminoplasts.
