Abstract
796,772. Forging nuts and the like. WATERBURY FARREL FOUNDRY & MACHINE CO. Jan. 5, 1956 [Jan. 14, 1955], No. 412/56. Class 83 (4). Mechanism for ejecting a blank, particularly a nut blank 23, from a blank-forming machine having a die 12 biased by a spring 14 and slidable in a die holder 11 and a stationary forming pin 19 extending into the die opening 13, comprises power-actuated means 49, 33 to positively advance the die and blank relatively to the pin 19 so as to break the bond between the pin and blank, and means 51, 30, 25 to thereafter eject the blank from the die. The forming pin 19 has a conical end 21 with a side recess 22, Fig. 7 (not shown) over which the preformed blank 23, located in the die opening 13, is pressed by means of a punch 24 secured to the reciprocating head of the machine, as described in Specification 796,773. During this forming operation the die 12 has been moved back against its spring by the punch. When the latter has been retracted the ejector mechanism is actuated by means of a rocker arm 39 adjustably secured by screws 40 on a rock-shaft 36 operated in timed sequence with the reciprocating head of the machine. Anti-clockwise movement of the rocker arm causes a transverse slide 44 to be moved downwardly whereby a cam surface 45 thereon pushes against a corresponding surface 47 on a sleeve member 49 which is thus moved to the left and causes plate 34 and three push-rods 33 to move the die 12 against a shoulder 16. Thereafter a portion 42 of the rocker arm engages a pin 51 which through plate 31 and three push-rods 30 actuates an ejector sleeve 25 thereby removing the blank 23 from the die.
