Abstract

Nystatin is recovered from an aqueous streptomyces noursei fermentation broth by adding to the whole broth a water-miscible organic solvent which is isopropanol, n-propanol, ethanol, methanol, or acetone, filtering the resulting mixture, removing the water-miscible solvent from the filtrate and recovering the resulting nystatia precipitate. After adding the solvent to the broth, it is preferred to adjust the pH to 4 to 6 and especially 4.5 to 5.5 by acids such as phosphoric to assist the solubilization of the nystatia in the aqueous solvent and then to adjust the pH to 6.5 to 7.5 and especially 7 by means of alkali such as sodium hydroxide in order to precipitate impurities which are filtered off. It is preferred to remove the solvent under vacuum at a temperature of up to substantially 30 DEG C. Specification 714,189 is referred to.
