Class 44 [Also in Group-VI] A cooking appliance comprises casing halves 12, 14 each provided with a reversible detachable combination grid 26 one side of which functions as a waffle iron and the other side as a grill, each grid being detachably secured in its half casing by means which includes a mounting spring clip 40 consisting at one end of a seating portion 42 inserted in an opening 64 in its half casing spaced from the edge and bearing resiliently on the edge of the opening nearest the edge of the half casing, a latching portion 44 engaging the grid and an intermediate portion 46 interconnecting the seating portion with the latching portion. The two casing halves are secured to each other by a hinge construction including a closed helical spring 16. Each of the casing halves has a heating element (not shown) -the lower half 14 being provided with supporting legs 20 and the upper half with a manual grip 22. Each half comprises a dished shell 24 the open side of each shell being closed by the reversible grid 26. The grid 26 has one flat face 28 and another face 30 which has a plurality of raised enlargements and depressions to form a waffle grid and is provided with a peripheral flange 36 into which the edge of the shell fits. A channel shaped locater 32 is secured to the flange 36 and when the grid is seated on the shell one leg of the locater enters an opening in the shell. When the grid is reversed the other leg of the locator enters the opening. The clip 40 is positioned diametrically opposite to the locator and is formed from a bent strip of resilient metal. The seating portion 42 comprises a pair of legs 50, 54 the leg 54 being connected to the portion 46 and the leg 50 having an arcuate hook 48. The seating portion 42 is positioned in the opening 64 in the shell with the arcuate hook 48 engaging an edge of the opening and the latching portion 44 can then engage over the flange 36 of the grid to secure it in place. The latching portion is bent at right angles to the connecting portion 46 and terminates in a rolled ear. The legs of the locator and the latching portion of the clip are recessed into the flange of the grid so that the two grids have the whole of their flanges in contact.
