Abstract

<PICT:0796021/IV (b)/1> <PICT:0796021/IV (b)/2> Apparatus for washing wool fibres in paraffin, or water containing a washing agent such as alkali alkyl sulphate, comprises a housing 1 in which a wire or nylon brush 2 rotates in an anticlockwise direction. The fibres are fed through a feed funnel 3 where they are sprayed, into a housing 1, and may be subjected to a kind of carding effect by ribs formed by solid protuberances, pins or elastic wires on the inside wall of the housing extending parallel with or at a small angle to the brush axis. In Fig. 4 the ribs are constituted by a corrugated plate 9, and the washing liquid is caused to pass through perforations in the corrugated plate so as to flow in a radial direction. Examples of wool fibre and washing liquid quantities, together with brush speeds are given, and the washed fibre may be led across a vibrating strainer (not shown) and may be sprayed or given an additional wash.
