Abstract

795,844. Making composite strip; rolling. COMPOSITE STEELS, Inc. Aug. 20, 1956 [Sept. 28; 1955], No. 35329/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Composite metal strip is formed in a continuous process by feeding together a base strip 1 and cladding strips 2 from reels B, C, welding the edges in welders 5, heating to pressure welding temperature in a furnace 6 and applying pressure as by rolls 7 to weld the assembly into a composite strip. In welding stainless steel to a carbon steel backing the stainless steel strips may be electroplated with iron in electroplating units 3. The strips may be straightened in rolls 4 and the product is finally coiled on a tension reel 8 which pulls the strips through the apparatus.
