Abstract

795,426. Moulding printed circuits. ERIE RESISTOR CORPORATION. July 26, 1956 [Aug. 25, 1955], No. 23110/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Groups VIII and XXXVI] A printed circuit panel is made by compressing an uncured plastic base 7 overlaid by a metal-foil sheet 9 between heated dies 8, 11 as described in Specification 725,115, the upper die 11 having projecting portions 13a corresponding to the pattern of the conductors to be formed on the printed circuit and further conical projections 14a which correspond in position with the terminal portion to which component leads are to be soldered, whereby the foil 9 is embossed into the surface of the plastic sheet as shown in Fig. 4, subsequently grinding away the unembossed portions 12 of the foil and then punching holes through the centres of the conical depressions 14. The conical depressions formed at the terminal portions serve as solder cups so that a component may be soldered into the circuit as shown in Fig. 2. The base 7 comprises a plurality of fibre sheets impregnated with a plastic composition which is cured by the application of heat from the dies 8 and 11. An adhesive 10 may be provided between the base 7 and the foil 9.
