A floor conveyer consists of a series of slats 1 which are carried along a " go " run in contacting relationship with their long dimensions extending laterally by endless chains 2, 3, 4 and 5, rotated through 90 degrees in a horizontal plane at the end of the " go " run and passed in this position to a "return" run extending beneath the " go " run, again rotated through 90 degrees at the end of the " return " run and passed back to the beginning of the go run. The " return " run is arranged between the chains 3 and 4 and consists of two series of rollers 22 along which the slats are pushed by an endless chain 24 equipped with dogs 23. Each of the chains 2, 3, 4, 5 and 24 carry rollers running on tracks 6, those of the chains 2-5 also supporting the slats 1. Each slat has rollers 18 on its underside for engagement with guide-rails 19, and is also provided with latch members 20 at its trailing corners and co-operating dog members at its leading corners so that the slats are held in contacting relationship on the " go " run. At the end of the " go " run the slats run off the chains 2-5 on to fixed rollers (not shown), and thence on to rollers 30 journalled in a pair of slotted members 31 each carried by a pair of cranks 32. One of the cranks 32 of each pair is secured to a shaft 33 acted on by an hydraulic cylinder 34. On receipt of a slat by the rollers 30, cylinder 34 is arranged to lower the slat until it rests on rollers 35 mounted on a turntable 36 which is supported by a bell race 36a. The slat is centred on the turntable by operation of an hydraulic cylinder 40 on the turntable which moves a dog 41 into engagement with one of the rollers 18. The turntable is then rotated through 90 degrees by actuation of an hydraulic cylinder 37, and finally the slat is pushed off the turntable on to the " return " run by a further hydraulic cylinder (not shown). At the end of the "return" run similar mechanism to that described first rotates the slat through 90 degrees in the opposite direction to that of its previous rotation, raises it to the level of the "go" run, and pushes it back into contacting relationship with preceding slats on the "go run."
