Abstract
794,637. Fhotographic light-sensitive materials. KODAK, Ltd. June 13, 1956 [June 21, 1955], No. 18233/56. Class 98(2) Degradation of a silver image in an exposed silver halide emulsion layer during its formation in the development step or during subsequent processing is prevented by incorporating in the emulsion layer or a contiguous layer the silver salt of 2 - thioglycolylamidobenzthiazole or of 2 - acetylthioglycolylamidobenzthiazole e.g. in an amount of from 0.5 to 3 grams per mol of.silver halide in the emulsion. In Example 1, data for the maximum density after hot drying for an exposed silver chloride emulsion (whose preparation is described and which contains saponin and formaldehyde). coated on paper, with and without the addition of two different amounts of the silver salt of 2 - thioglycolylamidobenzthiazole, are given. Example 2 is similar, but the emulsion is a silver chloride emulsion containing 2 per cent of silver bromide and the silver salt of 2 - thioglycolylamidobenzthiazole is incorporated in a gelatin coating applied over the emulsion layer.' Example 3 is similar to Example 2, using a silver chloride emulsion and a gelatin coating containing the silver salt of acetylthioglycolylamidobenzthiazole. In Example 4, relative speeds and maximum density values are given for two portions of a silver bromiiodide emulsion, of which one portion is overcoated with the silver salt and the other with the silver salt of thioglycolylamidobenzthiazole. The compounds may also be incorporated in coatings applied under the emulsion. Specifications 699,858 and 699,892 [Group IV(b)] are referred to.
