Abstract

Classes 59 and 117 [Also in Group XXX] A process for recovering and reconditioning the used core sand employed in casting comprises breaking up the pieces of sand supplied from a hopper 5 in a rotary drum having a slotted inner shell 2 containing metal balls and an outer sieve shell 3, the resultant sand grains dropping through a slotted shoot 7 into a receptacle, sucking out the dust by means of exhausters one fitted to a pipe 8 and the other to the slotted shoot 7, and removing core pins and other solid residues on the sieve shell 3 through a hollow shaft 10 having a worm conveyer 11 by periodically changing the speed and direction of rotation of the drum. The binder and other residues adhering to the recovered sand grains are individually recovered by suitable solvents e.g. diluted water glass and other chemicals.
