Abstract
792,462. Copy-milling; copy-planing; gearcutting. PATIN, P. C., and GARNIER, M. C. Jan. 13, 1955 [Jan. 18, 1954; June 28, 1954], No. 1105/55. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIV] A method of machining mating pairs of gear-members of the type employed in pumps and motors, and comprising an internallytoothed ring-gear having circular-teeth and an eccentred pinion having at least one tooth less than the ring-gear consists in, for the ring- gear, machining a ring-member to provide equispaced internal circular-teeth and, for the pinion, mounting a pinion-blank 1 of pitchcircle r, Fig. 2, on a first axis # spaced from a second axis O corresponding to the ring-gear of pitch-circle c, a distance equal to the throw of the gears, moving these two axes with a relative rotary motion, simultaneously rotating the blank 1 at the speed of said first axis around the second divided by the number of pinion-teeth to be obtained, and cutting the teeth by a circular-cutter 3 at a radius corresponding to that of a circular tooth of the ring-gear and rotatably-driven around said second axis at the speed of the second axis around the first axis. The pinion-teeth are thus formed by profilegeneration with the pitch-circles in relative rolling movement. Either of the pitch-circles may be maintained stationaryor both may be rotated. The cutter 3 may be one rotating about an axis parallel to the axes O and #, or it may be a broach 23 reciprocating along said axis, Fig. 4. The ring-gear may be formed by inserting cylindrical members 32, Fig. 5, in recesses 31 in a shell 30 or it may be generated by a pinion-tool in a manner similar to the pinion. The pinions may be finished by grinding-wheels in place of the cutter 3 or broach 23. A number of milling or broaching-cutters for the pinion may be used simultaneously, being mounted on a holder resembling the internallytoothed ring-gear, or a rack may be cut from the pinion, and then used for cutting other pinions.
