Abstract
792,219. Filtering gases. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. Aug. 13, 1956, No. 24673/56. Class 8(2). An air filter comprises a vertical cylindrical drum 2, Fig. 5, having a lower dust-laden air inlet 9, and an upper clean air outlet 13 between which is disposed a downwardly tapered filter bag 16 having its wide upper open end sealed against the inner wall of the drum 2 and its narrow end telescoped up and down within the bag to form concentric filtering walls 19 the upper folds of which are supported by concentric rings 21, Fig. 6, suspended from a cross bar 24 and the lower folds are held apart by pairs of perforated metal cylindrical screens 31, 32. The narrow end of the bag is folded over a pin 22 at the centre of the concentric rings 21 and the whole are held by a line of clips 27, 28 suspended from the cross bar 24. A bag shaking device comprises a rubber-sheathed post 51 projecting into the axis of the bag and connected by a rod 35 parallel to the bar 24 to a shaker lever 45 pivoted about a pin 46 external of the drum 2. The filter is preceded by a settling chamber 1 having a partly cleaned air outlet 8.
