Abstract

299,080. Brand, J. J. C., and Laing, B. July 19, 1927. Filters having sheet filtering-materials. - A filter element, formed of a series of coaxial cones, alternately upright and inverted, is suspended in a: casing with its lower end attached to a frame, which is resiliently secured to the casing, a connection from the frame being passed to the exterior of the casing so that the element can be vibrated to detach matter deposited thereon. A filter A, fitted in a cyclone separator B for separating air from powdered fuel, is made by folding a cone of fabric upon itself around rings a, a<1>, a<2> - - to form a series of coaxial cones. The rings a, a<2> - - are attached to supports c', and the rings a<1>, a<3> - - to supports c<2>. The casing B has a vent b for air, and a cone d directs the powdered fuel to an outlet tube d'. The supports c<2> are connected by springs e to plates d<2> riveted to the tube d', and the filter is shaken to detach dust therefrom by means of a wire rope e<3>, which passes round pulleys e<1>, e and is connected to the supports c<2>.
