790.734. Lenses. LENTILLES OPHTHALMIQUES SPECIALES SOC. A.R.L. April 25, 1956 [Oct. 15, 1955]. No. 12750/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 97(1) A lens is manufactured of suitable synthetic resin by polymerization or polycondensation of the monomer or monomers of the resin in a mould one of whose faces is optically shaped and polished to the shape of one of the final surfaces of the lens, the interior of the mould being of substantially constant thickness over its whole area, removing the rough lens from the mould and then forming the other final surface of the lens by grinding and polishing. The method is described as applied particularly to ophthalmic lenses of polymethyl methacrylate. the monomer being held in the mould during polymerization by a ring of polyisobutylene.
