Abstract

790,651. Copying-telegraphy. HUEBNER CO. June 6, 1955, No. 16129/55. Class 40 (3). Images are recorded by means of an assembly of needle-like discharge elements 24 co-operating with a like assembly of attraction elements 25 and forming therewith a gap across which a desired pattern of electrostatic fields is produced by the simultaneous energization of selected pairs of discharge and attraction elements. A web 25 of recording material, such as paper, is disposed in the gap and the recording is made by fine particles or atomized liquids which are injected into the gap from a pressure conduit 30 and are directed on to the material of the recording paper under the action of the electrostatic fields. Surplus recording material is extracted by a vacuum conduit 31. The recording appears as a pattern of dots corresponding to the pattern of energized elements. Sharply formed dots are maintained by magnetic focusing provided by a coil 37 and small stems 36 of iron filings and plaster formed around each attraction element. The energization of the elements in accordance with an image it is desired to record, for example a letter H in a transparency 11, is effected by connecting each pair over a separate control circuit to an assembly of photo-sensitive elements 15 on to which is projected light from a source 10 passing through the image. The photo-sensitive elements comprise germanium photo-diodes, and the associated control circuits include transistor amplifiers 23 which energize the recording elements either directly or via relays and separate high-potential circuits.
