Abstract

A disinfectant contains at least one bactericidal, unchlorinated or monochlorinated, organic compound, containing an aromatic hydroxyl group such as carbolic acid, phenols, chlorocresols, xylenols, monochloroxylenols, phenylphenol, chlorophenylphenol, cyclohexylphenol, chlorocyclohexylphenol, benzylphenol, chlorobenzylphenol, dihydroxydiphenyl - methanes, -sulphides and -oxides and their chlorinated derivatives, and alkyl- and halo-resorcinols derivatives, e.g. hexyl resorcinol and chloro resorcinol, and at least one salt of a polychlorophenol with an inorganic or organic base, e.g. the salts with the alkali metals, ammonia, amines or other organic bases of tri-, tetra- and pentachlorophenol, tri- and tetra-chlorocresol, tetrachloroxylenol and tetrachloronaphthol. A surface-active substance effecting the tension at a liquid interface may also be incorporated.
