Abstract
789.537. Refrigerating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 11, 1954 [Aug. 13, 1953], No. 23343/54. Class 29 In a refrigerator comprising a low temperature compartment 12 and a high temperature compartment 13 cooled by a compression refrigerating system comprising a capillary liquid feed tube 25, a relatively narrow evaporator pipe 27 in the compartment 13, a relatively wide evaporator pipe 2R in the compartment 12. an accumulator 29 and a suction line 26 in heat exchange with the capillary tube 25, the compressor motor is so cycled by a thermal element 41 in compartment 13 that the evaporator 27 defrosts during the "off" cycle and the diameter of evaporator 27 is such that vapour generated therein at the start of an "off" cycle expels liquid refrigerant into the evaporator 28. Evaporator 27 is given a large heat exchange surface by a plate 30 secured thereto and slopes towards the rear of the cabinet so that defrost melt water runs to the rear to be guided by a gutter 36 into a drip tray 37. A restricted orifice may be provided between pipes 27, 28.
