Abstract
<PICT:0788183/III/1> <PICT:0788183/III/2> A crystallizer comprises a cylindrical vessel 11 (Fig. 1) having an axial shaft 14 driven by a motor 15, the shaft 14 carrying pairs of arms 16 and 17 to which are attached spindles 18 on which are pivoted scraper blades 19 consisting of two rectangular ports 20 and 21. The ports 21 are of greater area than the ports 20 (see Fig. 2) so that, when the arms 16 and 17 are rotated in a liquid crystallizing in the vessel, the thrust on ports 21 is greater than that on ports 20 and ports 20 are urged against the wall of vessel 11. The lower arm 16 may be formed as a propeller, or the ports 21 may be feathered, to impart an upward thrust to the liquid so that crystallized solid is prevented from settling to the bottom of the vessel.
