Abstract
787,810. Lubricating. TECALEMIT, Ltd. Feb. 20, 1956 [March 16, 1955], No. 7690/55. Class 12 (3). Apparatus for dispensing lubricant to the wheels or rollers of chain conveyers, or to wheels of rolling stock, comprises a base 1, Fig. 1, carried by the frame of the conveyer and supporting a slidable carriage 7 on which is mounted a lubricating gun with its axis arranged transversely of the carriage. When the conveyer is in motion a cap 60 on the end of a conveyer roller spindle 18 engages a wearing block 44 on a trip lever 40 connected to the carriage and thereby moves the carriage, during which time the lubricating gun is engaged by a sloping face 25 of a pivotally-mounted cam plate 26 so that the gun is pressed against a nipple 17 on the spindle 18 to discharge lubricant thereinto. The trip lever 40 is eventually withdrawn from engagement by the cap 60, the cam plate 26 is lifted clear of the lubricating gun, the carriage 7 is returned by spring means to its initial position and the trip lever 40 is brought into position for engagement by the cap 60 on the next roller spindle. The lubricating gun comprises a barrel 13, Fig. 2, slidably arranged in a housing 14 fixed to the carriage 7, and a plunger 15 in the bore of the barrel which at its forward end is provided with a nozzle 16. The barrel 13 is attached to a guide sleeve 21 pressed outwardly by a spring 22, and the sleeve 21 is screwed to a ferrule 24 which forms a step for a thimble 23 slidably mounted on the barrel 13. Outward movement of the plunger 15 causes lubricant to be drawn past a valve 86 into the barrel 13. Inward movement of the plunger is caused by engagement of the thimble 23 with the face of the cam plate 26 which results in movement of the gun until the nozzle 16 engages the nipple 17 after which the pressure of lubricant in the barrel 13 opens valve 19 against the pressure of spring 19A and forces lubricant into the nipple 17. The cam plate 26, Fig. 1, is adjustably mounted on a support 27 pivoted on a shaft 28 which is acted upon by a torsion spring 31 tending to return the cam plate 26 from an upper inoperative to a lower operative position. The plate 26 is raised to its upper position by means of a cammed head 51, Fig. 4, on a cam shaft 52, the head 52 engaging a wear plate on the support 27. The head 51 is actuated when a stop pin 56 is engaged by a plate 57, Fig. 1, carried by the carriage 7 whereby the cam plate 26 is lifted clear of the thimble 23 on the lubricating gun. The trip lever 40 is disengaged from the cap 60 when its vertical arm engages a stop 61, causing the lever to be turned about its pivot, the lever being retained in the disengaged position by a spring-urged ball 45 engaging in a hole in the horizontal arm 43A of the lever. The carriage 7 is returned to its original position by means of a spring 68 compressed in a dash-pot casing 63, the spring acting against a piston which is connected by a universal joint 66 to a shaft 67 mounted on the carriage 7. The piston 64, Fig. 7, comprises a leather assembly past which air can leak during the forward movement of the piston. Towards the end of its movement a projection 65A on the piston acts against a plunger 77 to open a valve 71 and allow air compressed in front of the piston to escape through ports 76. Specification 623,180 is referred to.
