Abstract
623,180. Force-feed lubricators. TECALEMIT, Ltd., and LE CLAIR, C. C. S. Oct. 19. 1945, No. 27598. [Class 12 (iii)] Apparatus for supplying lubricant to the spindle 1 (Fig. 1) of a moving conveyer (or line of wagons) comprises a subsidiary endless conveyor 7, which is arranged parallel to and receives its motion from the main conveyer and which carries filling grease guns 16; a spaced driving means, e.g. spindles 1 on the main conveyer co-operating with driven means, e.g. brackets 22 in the subsidiary conveyer, so as to drive the latter; and means, e.g. cam 45 (Fig. 6), to force each filling grease gun towards the main conveyer so as to engage nipples 6 and to lubricate the spindles 1 of the main conveyer. Relative movement of conveyers. The subsidiary conveyer may be mounted upon a rectangular framework 13, 14, 101B, 102B (Fig. 1), which is pivoted at 101, 102 to bellcranks 94, 96, which themselves turn about fixed axes 98, 100 and are tied at their other ends by a rod (not shown): so that by rotation of a handle fixed on axis 100 the grease guns may be brought into or taken out of action, the framework moving sideways between limits imposed by cam 108 (on the axis 100) which moves between side walls 109, 110 on the moving frame. 106 acts as counterweight. The grease inlet pipe 86 is accordingly flexible. Alternatively, the frame may be fixed in the operative or inoperative position by spring catches operated by a flexible control cable. Charging of grease guns and their operation (Figs. 6, 7, 7A). Grease from pipe 86 passes down conduit 88 in the extended portion of hollow sprocket spindle 11 (round which the subsidiary conveyer 7 moves) and through pipe 77 to the charging gun 60. Two such guns are mounted upon carrier 59 which rotates with the sprocket 9 on spindle 11 and are such that the thimble end 62 of charging gun 60 is depressed by cam surface 63 and grease is discharged into nipple 32 of filling gun 16 during the whole period that the gun 16 is turning round sprocket 9. Filling gun 16 being filled, it discharges into nipple 6 when (Fig. 6) the latter has come (upwards) from the left, engaged with bracket 22 and thus aligned itself and the gun's thimble 39 has been depressed by engagement with cam 45. Upon engagement (Fig. 7A), thimble 39, plunger 27 and barrel 24 all move forward against spring 42 in the housing 19 fixed to the chain 7 till nozzle 29 meets nipple 6, then barrel 24 stops and plunger 27 and thimble 39 continue forward and grease is ejected into spindle 1 through non-return valve 30. Upon disengagement, spring 42 forces barrel 24 back till it meets abutment 43A and the return of plunger 27 and thimble 39 is completed by the injection of grease from one of guns 60. Both cams 45, 63 are adjustable. In order that nozzle and nipple may make good engagement, the nozzle 126 (Fig. 14) may be held by two half-moonshaped pins 129 which hold the nozzle movably in relation to the sleeve 128. Also, nipple 6 may be surrounded by a tubular extension 131 so as to guard it from damage and to guide the nozzle thereto.
