Abstract

An hydrocarbon fuel of the gasoline boiling range contains manganese pentacarbonyl as an anti-knock additive. The fuel may contain sufficient manganese pentacarbonyl to provide between 0.01 and 6 grams of manganese per gallon of fuel. The use of manganese carbonyl hydride is also mentioned. The fuel may also contain N,N1-disecondarybutyl-p-phenylene diamine and 2,4-dimethyl-6-tert. butylphenol.
