Abstract

786,519. Refrigerating systems. LOW TEMPERATURE DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd. June 29, 1956 [March 31, 1955], No. 9404/55. Class 29. The invention relates to continuous cycle absorption refrigeration systems in which the generator a and condenser c are maintained at a high pressure and the evaporator e and absorber f are maintained at a low pressure. According to the invention, strong liquor passes, through an inlet valve q, into a pump cylinder l and is displaced therefrom, through a delivery valve r, into a generator a by a piston l<1> in said pump cylinder, displaced by a piston k<1> in a power cylinder k and of larger effective area than said pump piston P, which is displaced by refrigerant vapour from, and under pressure reigning in, the generator a. The power and pump pistons are connected by a rod k<2> and are preferably double acting. The generator a has two float valves, hand i, governing respectively the release of weak liquor from the generator to the absorber f, and of high pressure vapour from the generator to the double acting power piston cylinder k. Valves n and o cause the vapour to flow to alternate sides of the piston k<1> and are controlled by the lost motion trip gear described in Specification 665,752. On leaving the power piston cylinder the vapour is led to the absorber. The inlet and outlet valves q<1>, q<2>, r<1>, r<2> to the pump cylinder l are operated by the high pressure refrigerant gas.
