Abstract
786,244. Cleaning printing surfaces. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. Jan. 24, 1956 [Feb. 7, 1955; May 10, 1955], No. 2317/56. Class 100(2) A device for cleaning ink from the cylinder of a rotary printing machine 10 comprises a base frame 21 adapted to be secured to the machine 10, a supplementary frame 45 movably mounted on the base frame and a roll 40 rotatably mounted in the frame 45. The frame 45 is pivoted on a shaft 37 to main frame 35 which is removably secured by screws 42 to the base frame 21. The roll 40 which is rubber-covered is movable towards and away from the cylinder 16 which is to be cleaned by means of links 53 which are connected to a cross member 47 on the frame 45 and to an eccentric 51 on a rotatable shaft 52 on the main frame 35. A container 30 for ink solvent is removably provided in the base frame 21 and is provided with a pad of felt or the like 60 one end 75 of which dips into the solvent and the other end 76 of which is contacted by the roll 40. The pad is supported by a spring member 65. The roll 40 is driven by frictional contact with the cylinder 16 and the amount of solvent thereon is controlled by a metal roller 90. The ends of the roller 90 are journalled in bearing boxes 91 slidably mounted in guideways 92 in the end plate 46 of the frame 45. The blocks 91 are acted upon by spring members mounted on a bracket 98 pivoted on the shaft 37. Also mounted on the bracket 98 is a spring member 97 which is acted upon by the head 96 of a screw 93, threaded in a block 94 pivoted at 95. The pressure of the roller 90 on the roll 40 is regulated by the screw 93. The roll 40 is provided with a cam groove which cooperates with a fixed pin so that during rotation it is reciprocated axially. In a modification the felt pad 60A (Fig. 11), is arranged so as to have an inverted U- shaped cross-section and is supported by member 82 having openings 83 therein to allow access of the solvent to the pad. The pad may be supported on its underside by a resilient member 77 also provided with openings 78.
