Abstract
<PICT:0742262/III/1> In a device for cleaning a cylinder 17 in situ in a printing or other machine, a driven cleaning roller 2, with resilientlycompressible liquid-absorbing porous surface, rotatably mounted in a container 1 so as to dip into cleaning liquid 6 therein, is pressed on to the cylinder 17 to which it applies the cleaning liquid and simultaneously absorbs the waste liquid containing matter dissolved from the cylinder. The roller may be pulley-driven (slowly to prevent splashing) from the machine or by an independent drive, and its absorbent surface may consist of a sleeve 3 of regenerated cellulose or other spongy material covered by a textile sleeve 4; as shown a roll 9 to squeeze out spent cleaning liquid is arranged within the liquid 6, or in a position to discharge the spent liquid into a second container or into another chamber of the container 1, and a roll 16 to regulate the quantity of liquid taken up by the roller 2 is also provided, these rolls being mounted respectively in bearing blocks 10, 18 manually adjustable in vertical guides by screws 14, 21, the latter having a locknut 22. The device is attached to the machine permanently, or only when required, by pivot bolts 25 in such a position that it tends to fall away from the cylinder 17; in use it is pressed forward by a screw 26 supported by a fixed member 27 and locked by a nut 28.
