Abstract

785,741. Coating webs. KÍRBER, K. Dec. 16, 1955 [April 6, 1955], No. 36116/55. Class 140. In a gumming and feeding device for connector sheets in machines for producing filter mouthpiece cigarettes in which the connector sheets are gummed, fed by a suction drum on to the cigarette mouthpiece, groups lying in the grooves of a rotary drum, and stuck down on these groups, a paper strip to form the connector sheets is supplied by means of a guide to a gumming device, the guide being arranged to withdraw the strip from the gumming device, e.g. when the machine stops. A gummed strip 3 is fed to a drum 1 holding pairs of cigarettes separated by a double length filter tip by passing the strip in contact with rollers 4 to 8, between rollers 14, 15 serving as a guide, over a gluing roller 9, between a cutting device 11 and suction drum 10 which severs the strip into lengths which are stuck on the tips. For temporary stoppage of the machine, the applicator roller 9 continues to rotate to prevent the glue drying, and the paper strip is lifted from the roller by the two rollers 14, 15. The rollers 14, 15 are mounted on a lever 16 mounted on a pivot 17 which also supports a lever 25. The lever 25 has a pin 24 which is engaged in slots in a fork 21 on the end of a core 19 of an electromagnet 18. Stopping the machine completes a circuit for the electromagnet which is energized moving a plunger 22 connected to the fork 21 and one end of an angle lever 26 from an abutment 28 on the lever 25. Further movement of the plunger depresses the lever 25 which raises the lever 16, lifting the paper strip from the gluing roller. This can also be effected by hand during operation of the machine by depressing the plunger by pressing a stop 32. The strip may be returned to the gluing roller automatically by restarting the machine which de-energizes the electromagnet and the lever 16 is returned by springs 30, 31. When the lever is displaced, a stop 34 on the lever 25 engages a recess 35 in the well of the machine to retain it in position. The lever is returned by depressing it by hand and by the action of the spring 30 when the machine continues to operate.
