Abstract

785,220. Supplying current to moving conductors. COLE, Ltd., E. K., and KING, A. E. Jan. 16, 1956 [Oct. 14, 1954], No. 29580/54. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XXXV] A number of pieces of electrical apparatus to be tested are each placed in trays 12 and connected through voltage control devices 11 and flexible leads 10 with terminals 9 on spaced carriers 5. When a shaft 2 is driven, the trays 12 are conveyed by a chain 14, and, synchronously with this movement, the carriers 5 and conductors 3, 4, also move. The conductors are in the form of endless laminated copper bands which pick-up current from drums 1 having copper carbon brushes bearing against their peripheries or their horizontal faces. The conductors 3, 4, may, for example, be a line and neutral on a single-phase supply. The carriers 5 are fixed to the conductors but are insulated therefrom, and have runners 6 engaging guide rails 7, 8. Connections from the conductors 3, 4 are taken to the terminals 9. A chain 16 is fixed to the carriers 5 and is driven by a sprocket wheel 17 on shaft 2 upon which is also mounted a sprocket wheel 15 meshing with the chain 14.
