784,930. Aircraft fuselages. ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH AIRCRAFT, Ltd., SIR W. G. July 4, 1955 [Nov. 22, 1954], No. 33682/54. Class 4. An aircraft having a bay, for a bomb or other missile, with an opening along the underside which is normally closed by doors, is provided with a movable platform, adapted on its underside to support the missile, which can be lowered to a position in which the opening is substantially closed by the platform. Fig. 3 shows the platform and operating mechanism in the raised position (firm lines) and in the lowered position (dot-dash lines). The platform 12 is supported by four bell-crank levers 13 arranged in pairs, each pair having their short arms connected by a tie-rod 15 so that it may be operated by a single jack 16. Each long arm of a bell-crank is provided with a side thrust roller 18 to coact with the adjacent side of the aircraft frame to steady the platform during lowering, and in the fully lowered position the long arms are arranged to engage supporting stops 19. To support the platform 12 firmly in its upper position, pins 20 attached to the aircraft frame are engaged by angularly movable catches 21, Fig. 4, mounted on the platform. Each catch 21 is biased by a spring 23 to move to the unlocking position but is held in the locking position by a locking bolt 24 biased by a spring 26. The locking bolt 24 is withdrawn by a trip lever 25 which is actuated by the end 27 of the jack 16. Specification 784,929 is referred to.
