Abstract

A refractory body consists of boron nitride and either refractory boride other than zirconium boride and carbon boride, or zirconium or carbon boride together with the ether boride. Specified borides are those of titanium, molybdenum and chromium singly or in admixtures. The boron nitride may be prepared according to Specification 742,326 [Group III] or 777,000 [Group III]. Pore formers e.g., a combustible such as carbon or a volatile substance such as naphthalene or phenolic resin may be included for greater porosity. The bodies may be crushed to give granules which can be bonded by metals, vitreous or ceramic bonds.
