Abstract
Acrylate and methacrylate esters are cured or polymerized in the presence of a drier, e.g. cobalt, manganese and lead naphthenates, a hydroperoxide curing catalyst, e.g. cyclohexyl, methyl ethyl ketone, tertiary butyl, paramenthane, di-isopropyl benzene and cumene hydroperoxides, and an ester derived from an allyloxyalkanol, e.g. alpha-allyl glyceryl phthalate and succinate and allyloxymethyl and allyloxyisopropyl methacrylates. Suitable acrylic and methacrylic esters are the polyesters described in Specification 607,888, e.g. ethylene glycol methacrylate/phthalate. The process may be used in making laminates with glass-cloth reinforcement, the allyloxyalkanol component being either mixed with part or the whole of the laminating resin or else a solution, e.g. in glycol dimethacrylate, may be brushed or sprayed on to the outer layer of the laminated body.
