Abstract

784,150. Drying air. AIR CONTROL INSTALLATIONS. Ltd., and CLIFFORD, G. E. June 30, 1955 [Nov. 24, 1954], No. 34117/54. Class 34(1) In apparatus for drying air in small quantities, such as for a wave guide, in which the air is passed through vessels 15 containing activated alumina or silica gel, each vessel having a heater 65 for regenerating the material, the moist air is compressed in a diaphragm type of compressor 10, 11 and is passed through a condenser before being passed to the vessels 15. Air enters the compressor by a conduit 41 and the compressor outlets are connected by a pipe 42 to a condenser battery 43 from which condensate is led away through pipe 44 and automatically discharging valve 45 to a waste pipe 46. The partly dried air is led by a pipe 47 to a distributer head 40 whence pipes 49 lead to the inlets of vessels 15 and to outlets 50 are connected to T-pieces 51 connected in turn to valves within casings 38, 39 communicating also with a delivery pipe 53 for dried air and a pipe 55 for conveying hot air for regenerating the vessels 15. Pipe 53 has a filter 56, humidity indicator 57 and pressure indicator 58. The valves are operated by a cam on a shaft 63 and switch gear includes a commutator 64 connected via conductor 66 with heaters 65, the valve and switch gear being operated by the motor which drives the compressor so that the vessels are brought into use and regenerated in succession.
