Abstract

783,559. Cleaning tubes. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd. March 14, 1956 [April 6, 1955], No. 10087/55. Class 99(2). In order to remove combustible waste deposits from the internal surface of a metallic tube, conduit or the like the waste deposit is ignited and a jet or jets of oxygen is directed against the deposit and the deposit is then removed by mechanical scraping action. As shown, the oxygen is supplied to an inlet 11 and passes to orifices 14 and issues in a series of jets. The whole is oscillated or rotated and the deposit is removed by scraper blades 15. The invention is particularly useful for removal of gummy deposits for example bituminous residues from tar still units. Any remaining deposit may be removed by an air blast and wire brushing.
