Abstract
783,272. Controlling gas burners. BASO Inc., [formerly MILWAUKEE GAS SPECIALITY CO.]. Feb. 26, 1954 [March 26, 1953], No. 5781/54. Class 75(1) [Also in Group XXXV] When a valve 29 is opened manually, water flows from an instantaneous water heater (not shown) through a conduit 10 in the direction shown. The flow of water influences a pivoted vane 61 which moves into engagement with a fixed stop 65 and acts on a sealed bellows 30 fixed centrally by a support 33 so that contacts 36, 37 within the bellows close to energize a solenoid 24 from a thermocouple 50 associated with a pilot burner 14. Solenoid 24 then opens a valve 20' to supply gas to the water heater main burner 11 which is ignited by the pilot burner. Contacts 36, 37 are then influenced by the effect of the water temperature .on bellows 30 so that water temperature is maintained constant by automatic control of the burner. The desired temperature is set by a knob 38, an internal cam surface 40 of which adjusts a spring 42 loading the bellows. A diaphragm 67 associated with an enclosure 69 and linked to bellows 30 eliminates the effect of water pressure variations on bellows 30.
