Abstract

792,930. Controlling burners. WHIRLPOOL-SEEGER CORPORATION. Dec. 9, 1955 [Dec. 9, 1954], No. 35466/55. Class 75(1) [Also in Group XXIX] A fuel flow control device for a burner comprises a pair of electrically operated valves 14, 37, Fig. 3, mounted on a body 41 carrying two switches for controlling the valves, one 24, Fig. 5, being thermosensitive and dependent on the lighting of the burner, and the other 16 a time delay switch effective to stop fuel flow if lighting does not take place within a predetermined time. On closing switch 12, Fig. 5, solenoid 13 is energized via cold bi-metal switch 16, the dotted position of switch 20, and the cold, dotted position of flame switch 24 from the mains 10. 11. This opens valve 14 allowing fuel to flow to a pilot burner 30 and moves switch 20 to its full line position connecting the solenoid 13 directlv to the mains 11. The pilot burner is lit from an igniter 29 connected to the mains through a transformer 25 and the flame switch 24 in its cold, dotted position. Should the pilot burner not light, mains current through the cold flame switch opens the bi-metal switch 16 after a delay by the heater 17 so that the apparatus is placed in its initial position. When the pilot burner heats a thermal bulb and bellows 33 the switch 24 is moved to its full line position whereby the mains energizes the solenoid 35 to open the main burner valve 37. The valves comprise discs 49, 91, Fig. 3, attached to armatures 54, 94 by clips 93, the solenoid armatures being sealed from the fuel by diaphragms 59, 37. The diaphragm operated pressure regulating valve 62 is situated in between the valves 14, 37. The switch 20 is actuated by a hinged armature 19 and fixed core 99 of solenoids 13.
