Abstract

783,252. Electromagnetic relays. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. April 13, 1956 [April 13, 1955], No. 11303/56. Class 38 (5). A resonance relay intended to respond to carrier signals having a frequency of, e.g., three and a half times that of a mains frequency of 50 c.p.s. comprises a reed 4 tuned to the carrier frequency and mounted on a steel block 6, the free end of the reed extending through an air gap 3 of a core 2 energized by a coil 1 of a circuit tuned to the carrier frequency, the block 6 and core 2 being connected by a polarizing magnet 7. Thus on receipt of a carrier signal of sufficient duration a pawl 8 on the reed 4 rotates a wheel 9 to turn a shaft 10 at a speed high enough to operate an electric contact through a centrifugal device (not shown). To prevent undesired operation of the shaft 10 by a disturbance of high amplitude having a frequency equal to or near the carrier frequency, a second reed 5 is provided tuned to a frequency about Π10 c.p.s. different from that of reed 4 so that it vibrates only weakly during transmission of a normal carrier signal and performs no controlling action. However, on receipt of a highamplitude disturbance as aforementioned the reed 5 vibrates and a finger 12 thereon immediately maintains a resilient lever 13 in a raised position, this lever being fixed by a member 15 to the core 2 and normally engaging the finger 12, the natural period of the lever being large compared with that of the reed. In its raised position, the lever 13 engages a ratchet-wheel 14 on the shaft 10 and thus the shaft is locked against rotation before it has attained the necessary speed to operate the controlled con tact. Specification 576,508 is referred to.
