782,734. Aerials. ELLIOTT BROS. (LONDON), Ltd. Nov. 23, 1953 [Nov. 21, 1952], No. 29503/52. Class 40 (7). In a method of manufacturing lens, reflectors, or similar elements for radio aerials, a number of sheets, strips or rods are prepared from solid dielectric material, having a thickness between opposed faces equal to the desired spacing of conductive strips in the finished element, and an electrically conducting surface is produced on at least one face of the sheet, strip or rod. As shown in Fig. 3, a number of strips 1 of dielectric material are each provided on one face with a metal conducting layer 4 and are then secured. together to form a stack by an adhesive, such as an incompletely polymerized plastic. The stack may then be machined to the shape of a curved mirror as shown in Fig. 5. The machining of one surface may be avoided as shown in Fig. 9 by varying the width of the metal coating 4a on the face of each individual dielectric strip. A lens init 9 of " egg box " construction as shown in Figs. 16 may be produced by machining a stack as in Fig. 3. Machining can be avoided, however, by building up the stack from strips 1c shaped as shown in Fig. 19.
