Abstract

782,295. Eye examining apparatus. CLARKE, Ltd., C., FINCHAM, E. F., and DOBREE, J. H. April 4, 1956 [April 4, 1955], No. 9749/55. Class 97(1) A gonioscopic element for use in the ex- :amination of the angle D<SP>1</SP> of the anterior chamber D of the human eye, has a concave boundary surface A<SP>1</SP> substantially shaped to fit the cornea B of the eye and plane reflecting surfaces E<SP>1</SP>, F<SP>1</SP> inclined to one another at an angle between 25 and 37¢ degrees and arranged so that, when the element is placed upon the cornea, the surface E<SP>1</SP> makes an angle not greater than 10 degrees with the axis of the eye, the surface F<SP>1</SP> cuts such axis and a principal ray C from the angle D<SP>1</SP> of the eye will be transmitted by the contacting surfaces A' and B and successively reflected by the surfaces E<SP>1</SP>, F<SP>1</SP> to emerge approximately in line with the axis of the eye. The element may be formed by a single block of transparent material mounted in a holder G, the surface E<SP>1</SP> being coated to be reflecting. Alternatively the surface A<SP>1</SP> may be provided as a thin member closing the end of the holder G which supports the plane reflectors E<SP>1</SP> and F<SP>1</SP>. The element may be used with a slit lamp apparatus.
