Class 120 (2) In a machine for imparting a. double twist to yarns, of the type in which . the supply of yarn is carried in a holder at the upper end. of a vertical twisting spindle, the yarn package holder is prevented from movement by a pair of sliding catches or bolts mounted on the yarn. package holder each adapted to engage a corresponding fixed bracket or the like, the catches being controlled by a cam or eccentric carried by the vertical spindle, the contour of the cam or eccentric being such that one or the other of the catches or bolts is always in engagement with its corresponding bracket and a gap is always left for the upward passage of the yarn. As shown the invention is applied to a doubling frame having two sets of spindles A disposed on either side of a central driving cylinder B and driven therefrom by endless driving belt C. The twisting head for imparting the double twist is indicated at D and the yarn supply package holder at E. Yarn from the package E1 may pass either through a wetting trough H or over damping rollers H1 to a yarn take-up package G1 on a spindle g carried by an arm g1. Each spindle A has a central axial passage a down which the yarn y passes, .the latter then. passing through a radial passage to a hole d in a horizontal flyer disc D1. The supply package support E is supported by ball bearings at the upper end of the spindle A secured to a downwardly extending member c2, which surrounds the spindle A and carries at its. lower end a disc E3. Mounted on the underside of the disc E3 are two sliding catches F which are reciprocated under the action of a cam or eccentric A1 and springs a3 as the spindle rotates. Outside the disc E3, fixed stops or brackets f are arranged each having a horizontal hole f1 adapted to receive the end of the corresponding catch F so that as the spindle A rotates first one catch F and then the other is engaged in its respective hole in the brackets f. The contour of the cam A1 and the distance which each catch F enters its hole is such that one or other of the catches is always in engagement with the brackets f so that the supply package E is always held stationary and further the distance between the ends of the catches F and the brackets f is such that there is a free passage between them for the upward travel of the yarn when the catches are withdrawn. The disc E3 may be replaced by a pair of arms and each catch F may be connected to a sheath of eccentric form on the spindle A so as to give them a direct reciprocating movement. Embodiments are described in which the supply package is a single horizontally mounted cheese; a number of horizontally mounted packages or a vertically mounted cone type package.
